Walther P22 Grips Replacement Instructions

Pictorial instructions for changing the grips of a Walther P22 Semi-Automatic Pistol.

and back strap
Tools Needed

Replacing the grips is very simple and fast. All you need is a 3/32 inch diameter punch (or something small) and your replacement grip (blackstrap). Make sure your P22 is unloaded before you change the grips.

Retainer Pin Location

Locate the grip retainer pin on the handle of the gun.

Using the punch, push the retainer pin out from the grip of the gun. It will come out either way. Push slowly and carefully. It doesn't take much force to push it out.

Pry Location
Grip Removal

The old grip may be a little stuck and hard to get off with just your hands so you may have to gently pry it loose with your punch or screwdriver. The picture shows a good location where to pry it loose from.

Grip Swings Out

The bottom of the grip will swing out easily. The top of the grip has a lip that is retained by a slot in the gun handle. The grip must be pulled down to free it from the slot. You can see the lip and the slot in the pictures below.

To install the new grip just reverse the process. It really only takes a few seconds.

Walther P22 Interchangeable Grips

The gun is shipped with two interchangeable grips. One grip is installed on the gun, the other can be found as a spare in the gun box. It's a good idea to try out both grips to see which is best suited for you. (Personally I found little difference between the two grips.)

Walther P22 Interchangeable Back Straps

Having two back straps of different sizes gives the P22 the ability to accommodate different shooters with a custom fit of the hand grip to fit comfortably and securely in hands of all sizes.
