Rubber Piece Found Inside Glock 21 Slide

February 19, 2012
I purchased a used glock 21 last week, and found a rubber piece inside the slide in front of the guide rod and spring. I can not find this part on any diagram or video. I like to know what it is used for. Is it to help reduced the recoil or produce more spring pounds. Or is it just to help the the guide rod stay in place.
Thank you.
Dave

Response - Dave,

If I had to guess I would think it would be a recoil buffer (helps prevent wear), especially since your Glock 21 is 45 caliber. I have never seen or used one, but I do see them often in catalogs and on the internet.

"Recoil buffers are an easy and inexpensive way to eliminate damage of critical components by preventing the metal to metal contact of the slide or breech block with the frame. Made from a high density polyurethane formulated for maximum shock-absorbing characteristics, the recoil buffer is a drop-in part."

"The Shok-Buff prevents the slide from battering the frame during recoil by sandwiching a 1/10" thick poly fiber buffer between the slide and frame contact areas. Provides the optimum balance between shock absorption and longevity. Easily replaceable after absorbing up to 1,000 rounds of repeated firings, the Shok-Buff slides over the recoil spring guide between the guide and spring. Fits Glock models 17, 17L, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 24C, 31 and 32."

Is this what it looks like?

If not, I would recommend you do a Google image search using the search words "glock 21 recoil buffer" and other variations and see if you can find the part that looks like yours. I would be curious to know what you find out.
Best regards,
Tanner
